Silent Meditation Retreats

“In a retreat, you come face to face with your habitual patterns, and that’s a very powerful thing. It gives you the chance to see clearly, to let go of old habits and to cultivate new ones.”

- Sharon Salzberg

“Silent retreats are a chance to step out of the busyness of our lives and to really focus on our meditation practice. They offer a unique opportunity to deepen our understanding and to cultivate insight and wisdom.” ~ Joseph Goldstein

RESIDENTIAL SILENT MEDITATION RETREAT: A JOURNEY WITHIN

A residential silent mindfulness meditation retreat, usually lasting a minimum of 6D5N, offers a profound opportunity for deep introspection and personal growth. Set in a serene, distraction-free environment, these retreats provide a structured and supportive setting for sincere meditators to immerse themselves in mindfulness practices. Whether you're a novice or an experienced meditator, attending such a retreat can be transformative, offering numerous benefits and key learning outcomes.

WHAT IS A RESIDENTIAL SILENT MINDFULNESS MEDITATION RETREAT?

A residential silent mindfulness meditation retreat is an extended period of time dedicated to intensive mindfulness practice in a supportive, silent environment. Participants typically stay at a retreat center, where they follow a daily schedule consisting of sitting and walking meditations, mindful movements, additional practice instructions evolving over the days, and evening talks led by experienced instructors. Silence is maintained throughout the retreat, with the exception of necessary communications and scheduled discussions with teachers.

WHY ATTEND A SILENT RETREAT?

  • Deepened Practice: For experienced meditators, a silent retreat provides an opportunity to deepen their practice, moving beyond daily meditation routines into extended periods of sustained mindfulness.

  • Focused Environment: For beginners, the retreat offers an immersive introduction to mindfulness practices in a structured and supportive setting, free from the distractions of everyday life.

  • Personal Healing and Growth: The silence and solitude foster a unique environment for personal reflection, allowing participants to gain insights into their habitual thought patterns and behaviors.

  • Enhances Wellbeing: As insight into one’s habitual thought patterns deepens, it supports healthy choice-making and hence significantly reduce stress, anxiety, and emotional reactivity, promoting a sense of calm and well-being.

Attending Silent Retreat is also essential for those already teaching or interested in teaching Mindfulness-Based Programs (MBPs) such as the 8-week MBSR and 8-week MSC programs.

Our retreat teachers are selected based on their depth of personal practice and retreat teaching experience. They meet the requirements for teacher training and certification with Mindfulness-Based Training Organizations, such as the Mindfulness-Based Professional Training Institute, University of California at San Diego.

Each participant will have a daily Yogi Volunteer Job at the center for approximately 30 minutes each day. More information will be provided to you before the program starts.
